“Kee Tak Zek” Restaurant

April 30, 2006
“Kee Tak Zek” @ KTZ restaurant, pronounced as “Kei Tuck Sek” in cantonese – means “Remember To Eat” is a chain of restaurants that reside in KL area. They are famous for their variety of “Thong Shui”/desserts and Dim Sum. I’ve visited 3 different KTZ outlets in Kepong, SS2 and Jalan Imbi.
This is taken at KTZ SS2
A cam-shot of the desserts being offered.
Their Peanut Butter Thong Shui has been praised by many who tried it. The list includes.. Shang Jun and Siang Leng lol, so blame them if it’s not nice :P
Peanut Butter… oooo
I wanted to try something special so I ordered their Sesame Thong Yun. It was nice stuff, very recommended let me warn you first, they cost RM1 per biji. 0_0

Lastly we ordered the “Bake Crab”, which is some Siu Mai stuffed in a poor crab shell :P A bit pricey for the proportion, not worth ordering again. Anyway it looks nice.

Poor crab :(

SS2 “Murni” Restaurant

April 30, 2006
I was brought to this mamak-like restaurant by Ji Xian about a year ago and it left me with very deep impression. It served many different roti canais I haven’t heard before that time, “Roti Beckham”, “Roti Ayam”, “Roti Hawaii” etc.. Basically the rotis are all stuffed with different fillings, and topped with really generous amount of mayonaise.
“Roti Hawaii”.. really huge

The mayo guilt..

“Roti Scramble” – lots of egg and mayo inside out
Their drinks are quite special too, contained in a peanut butter like glass bottle. Remember those bottles that we normally use to keep finghting fishes when we were small? Almost the same. The blended fruit juices are worth a try if you haven’t, with laicis and nata de coco inside.
Ice Blended Fruit Juice(Mango)
This place is always packed, hailed by many as one of the favorite hangout place in KL(others being Ming Tien/Asia Cafe) It is so crowded that 3 neighboring shops were also used to accomodate the customers. Also famous are their nasi lemak, claypot “lau shu fen” and western food.
Full house on a Friday night
If you happen to be around SS2, this is definitely a place you must visit. It’s located just behind the KFC. You cannot miss it.

“Shall We Meet” Restaurant

April 29, 2006

“Shall We Meet” restaurant.. the first time I see the name, it reminds me of the “Shall We Talk” song by Eason Chan. Anyway, this cafe-like restaurant is located SS2, directly opposite Wong Kok Char Chan Teng.

“Shall We Meet” – shouldn’t it be “Yao Jian Mian Ma?”
The decor of the restaurant is plain and simple. Almost everything is in black and white: tables, chairs, walls, and the waiters’ uniform. “Shall We Meet” serves a really wide range of customers, when we were there we saw families, office ladies, students and couples dining.
Banana Chocolate Milkshake
One thing I found interesting in their menu is the “Dan Dan Mian” translated to Cart Noodles. There are 3 different combos that you can order: A,B or C .. seriously they need to think of more creative names lol.
Cart Noodles A, B or C leh?
The differences among the combos are the number of toppings you can add to your noodles. You can choose from luncheon meat, sausage, egg, braised pork, curry chicken and many more. Besides the toppings, you can also choose the type of noodles you wish to have, eg. Wantan mee, Yellow mee, Huang Ti noodle etc. Lastly, you will need to decide the gravy, which I chose curry chicken. Customization is the selling point here :) This was how my customized Cart Noodle looked like.. The soup that accompanied tasted very unique, another selling point.
Ham + Sausage + Huang Ti Noodle + Curry Chicken gravy
This was what Siang Leng had, luncheon meat + egg set. Nothing special to write home about.
This should be taken for breakfast :P

English Radio Station Reviews

April 25, 2006

Recently there are a few really annoying songs that are being aired again and again by some english radio stations.

Hitz.FM:
Black Eyed Peas – “Pump It”

Fly.FM:
Chris Brown – “Run It”
Beyonce – “Check On It”
Shannon Noll – “Shine”
Pink – “Stupid Girl”
Shakira – “Hips Don’t Lie”

Mix.FM:
James Blunt – “You’re Beautiful”

As you can see from the list above, Fly.FM plays most of the annoying songs among all. This is the problem with Fly.FM, the songs they play indeed are the latest, but also too limited. The songs kept repeating every single hour, and it is starting to get boring. Instead of using that quote “50 minutes of non-stop music”, I suggest Fly.FM change it to “50 minutes of repeating music”. One thing I truly like about Fly.FM is the Big Bang Breakfast show hosted by Flyguy and Natalie, it’s way much funnier than Hitz.FM’s Morning Crew.

Speaking of Hitz.FM’s Morning Crew, they are trying too hard to be funny. Their gotcha calls are lame and I am surprised that the people being pranked cannot detect it. Another thing I don’t like about Hitz.FM, they keep playing those stupid-god-knows-which-alien-remixed-it songs. The only time I’d listen to Hitz.FM is every weekday starting from 8pm when Phat fabes hosts the Early Late Net Show.

Mix.FM was my favorite station a few years back when I was studying, because the songs they really offer a very good variety of music. I especially liked the Mix.FM Drive Home segment hosted by Asha Gills and Nondt, they can really make me laugh. Too bad Asha has left Mix.FM after only a few months of stint. Mix.FM Breakfast Show’s quality has been deteriotating from being funny to plain boring. I always perceived Richard as a rude DJ with no sense of humor who constantly make jokes out of the listeners, mostly during Battle Of The Sexes.

There’s a need for an alternative Radio Station badly, so badly that I am starting to switch to Light & Easy sometimes…

Silly cat

April 25, 2006

I find this cat always wandering around Siang Leng’s townhouse very cute. It has this silly look because no matter what it is doing, her tongue always sticks out. Silly cat :)

Coming near me, very friendly
Stretching her legs

Anyway, this is another type of cat, suicidal one. Can be found in MMU lecture hall toilets’ roof -.-”

Puchong “Waterlily Cafe”

April 24, 2006
I have been receiving recommendations from friends and ex-colleague about this restaurant “Waterlily Cafe” located along the Puchong IOI Business Park. Words have it that it is an excellent place for close friends to hang out and for couples to enjoy a romantic evening. So last Friday Siang Leng and I decided to check out the food there. Funny thing though, although I’ve been travelling along Puchong quite often, I didn’t know that the restaurant was there all the while until SL pointed it out to me.
Upon entering the restaurant, sights of chefs grilling steaks can be seen. The atmosphere is gentle and warm, dim orange lights create a relaxing and romantic feeling throughout the establishment. The walls are fully hung with various newspaper articles recommending this restaurant.
They keep a lot of wines from Romania

Food choices are mainly divided into light snacks, mixed grills, nasi lemak and pasta. Steaks are prepared in Balinese style, similar to those in Bumbu Bali, another Bali oriented restaurant that serves excellent Western food. More about Bumbu Bali can be read at SL’s blog here.

Waterlily Menu

We wanted to have something light to kick off our meal so we ordered the “Waterlily Chicken Rendang Sandwich”. It tasted great and unique, the grilled chunks of potatoes accompanying the dish is spicy and a bit salty. Our main course for the night were Bali Grilled Chicken + Lamb and BBQ Chicken Pasta. SL wanted to have the nasi lemak but only nasi putih was available, what a pity.

Chicken Rendang Sandwich

Things were fine at first, we were enjoying the sandwiches very much but the 40 minutes wait for our main course to arrive definitely ruined our mood for the night. Apparently the waiter forgot to hand our orders to the chefs. Ironically, they managed to get our sandwich delivered. Anyway, here are some photos of the main course.

NBTD while waiting, take pictures
Still waiting… ZzZzZzzz

The mix grill was huge in proportion, and I mean REALLY huge. The brown sauce tasted great and thick, but lacked in amount(just a small cup? come on) The pasta however was kind of a let down, the chicken tasted bland and SL had to dip the meat into my brown sauce to make them tastier.

HUGEEEEEEEEE
Chicken Pasta

Overall “Waterlily Cafe” is worth going if you haven’t been there before, the food served definitely is worth what you paid for. However I really hope the service provided was better because now I feel inclined to visit again due to the delay in our orders, 40 minutes is really too long.

*Useful tips:
1. The “Waterlily Blended *insert fruit here*” taste like normal fruit juice, nothing out of the ordinary. I suggest you have their “ABC Blended”, a featured specialty.
2. If you see later customers eating earlier than you or you have waited for more than 15 minutes for your meal, clarify with the waiters.
3. Not sure if photographing is allowed as the waiters prohibited us to take the photos outdoor(that’s why no photos of chefs cooking) but we were allowed to take indoor?
4. Get there earlier to catch their Nasi Lemak. Heard it tastes great.

Starhill Gallery “Indulge” and “Feast”

April 24, 2006

Starhill Gallery is a very high class six-storey shopping complex that houses only the finest brands. Located in Jalan Bukit Bintang, it can be easily spotted by the glass made entrance. A noteworthy fact about this shopping complex: it’s co-designed by Siang Leng’s aunty.

Indeed this place is a very fine place to shop, if you have the cash to spend. Luxurious clothes and items are abundant for those who can afford them. Anyway, my main interest is the food lounge, which will be the main attraction for a poor man like me(I entered the complex in jeans and slippers yo :P )
Words cannot describe this place, let the photos do the talking..

Top down view of the ground floor from the escalator
“Shook” Thumbs up :P

This is actually the exit to JW Mariott Hotel
Nice lights
“Tarbush” Restaurant, serves camel?
There’s supposed to be water flowing through the hanging cups, but it’s not functioning properly, so it’s temporarily turned off
A Chinese restaurant, lots of ducks hor?

Beautiful hallways

Other restaurants

Siang Leng

Looks small ain’t it? It’s actually as big as 2 palms of yours..

Lobsters.. yum

Aquariums displaying various expensive seafood

This restaurant has a cowboy theme
A chef trying hard to crack open an oyster.. all viewable through a wide transparent glass
Starhill Gallery also has the nicest public toilet in Malaysia, go take a look if you happen to be nearby, I assure you it’s worth your time. Last thing I’d like to mention about Starhill is that you are actually not allowed to take photos of the restaurants/hallways. But they do allow you to take photos of your friends. I wonder what difference that makes?

KLCC “Signatures” Food Court

April 24, 2006
“Signatures” is one of the two available food courts currently residing in KLCC. Compared to the other food court – “Asian Flavours”, “Signatures” is a class higher(so you can expect the food to be 50 cents – RM1 more expensive) and they serve better food. Besides, you can have a great view of the KLCC park if you are lucky to have the side seats :)
Waiting for my sandwich :D
I still remember my experience to this food court I had when I first visited KLCC 5 years ago. I was about to enroll in my FCM Alpha course in MMU Cyberjaya and my whole family came along to tour KL city. We were awed to see this place lol.
Turkey Ham Sandich, yum
“Super Sandwiches”, the sandwich stand that left me with the deepest memory.. I still can recall the feeling of amazement I had when they presented me with the combination of different sandwiches I can have. It has became a regularity that I must visit this sandwich stand everytime I step into this food court, it surely brings back some fond memories.

*Useful tips*
1. Drinks sold here are really expensive, especially those cold ones. Head to McD if you want a soft drink, or the nasi kandar stall for hot drinks.
2. The nasi kandar campur and chicken rice are nice and not really expensive. Rm4.50 a meal here is a steal.

Dim Sum

April 24, 2006
“Dim Sum” – in Chinese meaning “a pinch to the heart” is a variety of dumplings and buns that can be either steamed or fried, normally served along with chinese tea. As the name implies, Dim Sum is to be treated as a light snack rather than a full meal.

Delicious Char Siu Pao, anyone?

Plenty of Siu Mais, who doesn’t love Siu Mai??
I have yet found any recommendable Dim Sum in KL, if you have any suggestions please do write a comment after this post. Few days ago I spent 2 hours driving around Sri Petaling and Bukit Jalil trying to find the 24H Dim Sum restaurant Ji Xian mentioned a few years back. After asking 8 different people, which include 3 Malay apartment guards, an Indian newspaper seller, a Chinese restaurant owner and 3 friends through phone calls, we still couldn’t manage to find that damn place. Really ‘da pai’.
A Dim Sum restaurant in Kepong
In the end gave up finding and ended up eating Char Kueh Teow in Serdang. 1.30 am. Phhhft. -.-

Kepong “Ka Ka” Bak Kut Teh

April 24, 2006
Every time I visit Kepong I will notice a lot of people eating in this Bak Kut Teh stall. Some forumers at Lowyat.net also recommend this stall for nice BKT, so Siang Leng and I decided to try it(although we just had Klang BKT 4 days ago :P )
Even their herbal drink is named “Jia Jia”
If you aren’t a BKT fan like me, try going to the food court opposite(it’s damn big and bright, you can’t miss it) and check out their Curry Fish Head, it’s marvelous. I had it twice already but both times I didn’t bring along the camera.. will blog more about it if I have the opportunity :)

The place was packed, until the shophouses behind were used to accomodate the customers. See the photos to witness yourself, it was around 7.15 pm that time.

Shown here is only 40% of the customers that night.. so packed

“Ka Ka” BKT
“Zhu Jiao Chu” – Pork Hind cooked with Vinegar(it’s a dish for pregnant women)
Overall the BKT and “Zhu Jiao Chu” we had were so-so, equally tasty as those found in Dengkil, but the Yau Char Kuai is the best, freshly fried and very crunchy.
Nice view of the BKT, the Yau Char Kuai is the best
